Women Ministry History
The women ministry of Antioch Baptist Church was organized in the year of 1995 under Pastor John Phillip with First Lady Delores Phillips as Ministry Leader. Under First Lady Phillips our mission was to heal the hurting and brokenness as well as introducing the ministry members to public speaking. Each month a different member would be a presenter at the monthly meetings such as Minister Robin Lindsey, First Lady Delores Phillips, Minister Angela Lindsey, Sister Phyllis Walker, Sister Mary Baldwin and Sister Carolyn Ridley just to name a few.
On April 11, 1998 we celebrated our third anniversary with Evangelist Gloria Whitmore of Towaliga County Line as our guest speaker and Sister Janie Smith presiding.
May 9, 1998 we celebrated mother’s day with a mother and daughter breakfast. The guest speaker was Sister Bernice Buchanan of China Grove Baptist Church with Sister Grace Holder as presiding.
The women ministry was inactive for a few months however in 1999 the ministry was reorganized under Pastor Stanley Moore with First Lady Connie Moore as Ministry Leader. Under the leadership of First Lady Moore we were determined to continue our quest for spiritual growth, spiritual healing and togetherness.
May 19, 2001 we held a tribute to First Lady Moore titled “A Virtuous Woman” with Sister Patricia Releford as guest speaker and Sister Janice Tiller presiding.
September 9, 2001 we celebrated Women’s day, the Theme was “Women Worshiping God in Spirit and in Truth”. The speaker was Minister Kenneth Giles with Sister Pamela Jones presiding and First Lady Connie Moore as Chairperson.
June 6 – 8, 2002 we hosted our Women Conference, the Theme was “Restoring and Equipping Broken Vessels: Our Journey to restoration”. Luke 4:18
Thursday June 6, 2002 the speaker was Tracey Mathis; Friday June 7, 2002 the speaker was Sister Robin Lindsey and Saturday, June 8, 2008 we held our Sister to Sister Luncheon with Pastor Stanley Moore as the speaker.
September 8, 2002 we celebrated our third women’s day program, the Theme was “Women unlocking the chambers of their heart and entering into the presence of God”. The guest speaker was Minister Katie Crawford with Sister Janie Smith presiding.
July 10 – July 13, 2003 Our Women Theme was “Becoming a Women who Pleases God”
Proverbs 31:25, 31 – “She is clothed with strength and dignity: she can laugh at the days to come. Give her the reward she has earned and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.”
Thursday, July 10, the speaker was Sister Phyllis Walker, Friday July 11, the speaker was Sister Merra Lyons and Saturday July 12, the speaker was Sister Patricia Releford. This conference was chaired by Sister Patricia Releford and Sister Phyllis Walker.
July 13, 2003 we celebrated our fourth Women’s Day program, the speaker was Evangelist Nicole Borders, The Diva of Gospel”, Lithonia, Ga. With Sister Raquel Russell presiding.
Our ministry continued to grow; Minister Robin Lindsey accepted her calling into the ministry and took on the role of Ministry Leader. Under the leadership of Minister Lindsey we adopted the Royal colors of Purple and Gold, what a wonderful sight to see so many sisters dressed in the royal colors at our women’s conference. Some of our conference leaders were Minister Robin Lindsey, Sister Patricia Releford and Sister Phyllis Walker. This conference was very inspiring and we leaped into both spiritual and physical growth.
July 11, 2004 we held our 5th Women’s Day celebration, the guest speaker was Evangelist Lisa Atwater of St. Timothy Baptist Church with Minister Tara Giles presiding.
In 2005 we moved our women conference to the month of September so that our women conference and women day would be celebrated in the same month. The 2005 women conference was September 23 – September 25, 2005 with a Them of “Women of Many Hats on a Pathway with a Chain Unbroken which included: A Prayer Breakfast, Marriage/Singles Seminar, Teen Seminar, Gifts and Praise & Worship. This Conference was chaired by Sister Sylvia Lindsey.
May 21, 2005 we held a Faith Seminar which included Breakfast and fellowship. Praise and worship was rendered by Sister Raquel with Minister Robin Lindsey as chairperson.
Under the leadership of Pastor Keith and First Lady Charlotte Battle we reached new heights by hosting out first 2 day Women’s Retreat.
In 2006 we adopted the theme of S.W.I.F.T., “Sisters Walking in Faith Together” and continued with the royal colors of purple and gold.
July 28 – 29, 2006 S.W.I.F.T hosted the first 2 day Women’s Retreat at The Holiday Inn
Express Hotel and Suites, Griffin, Ga. The theme for the retreat was Experience the SPA, (Spiritual Purpose Awakening) It’s like no other. The speakers for this 2 day event were all very powerful women of God which included: Elder Charlotte Franklin of Griffin Georgia, Minister Mary Jones of Smyrna, Georgia, Evangelist Delores Staton of Williamston, North Carolina, Minister Karon Awbrey of Lilburn, Georgia, Elder Joyce House of Griffin Georgia, First Lady Jacqueline Fuller of Griffin, Georgia and Minister Robin Lindsey of Barnesville, Ga. and Sisters Pamela Jones, Catrese Jenkins, Denise Caslin and Minister Robin Lindsey presiding. “Come to experience an “Encounter with God”. This retreat allowed you to reflect, release and rejoice, leaving with a Transformation of a Spiritual Profound Anointing.
This retreat was chaired by Sister Catrese Jenkins and Sister Pamela Jones
In 2007 Minister Robin Lindsey decided to resign as ministry leader and the ministry did not meet for a few months however in 2008, God in His infinite Wisdom sent a tenacious Women of God by the name of Sandra Puckett who agreed upon First Lady Battle’s request to lead the women of Antioch.
Under Sister Puckett’s leadership we continued our monthly meeting with the book “If you want to walk on water you have to get out of the boat” and moved on to study Extraordinary Women from the Bible.
September 25th through September 28th, 2008 the Theme for our Women’s Conference was “Extra-Ordinary Women with as Extra-Ordinary Purpose with Sister Sandra Puckett as Conference chairperson. The S.W.I.F.T Angel was introduced; Sister Sylvia Lindsey designed a pen for the members of S.W.I.F.T to wear in a show of unity. On Thursday, September 25 and Friday, September 26 the speaker was Pastor Angela Wootson of Pine Grove Baptist Church, Culloden, Ga.
On Saturday, September 27 we hosted a prayer breakfast at Ryan’s Restaurant in Griffin, Ga. The prayer breakfast included Prayer of Thanksgiving was given by Sister Edith William of Grays Chapel CME Church, the prayer of Healing was given by Sister Jeanette Releford and the prayer for Antioch Baptist Church (ABC) and S.W.I.F.T. was given by First Lady Charlott Battle. The speaker for the Prayer Breakfast was Pastor Veronica Smith of Source of Hope, Gainesville, Ga. with Sister Carolyn Ridley, chairing the event.
Sunday, September 28 the speaker was Pastor Linda Merritt of Freedom King Ministry, Villa Rica, Ga. The 2008 conference was a very spiritual and enlighten event.
This conference was chaired by Sister Sandra Puckett.
